OFFICIAL MISSION STATEMENT FOR THE WOMENS MARCH ON WASHINGTON:

On January 21, 2017 we will unite in Washington, DC for the Women’s March on Washington. We stand together in solidarity with our partners and children for the protection of our rights, our safety, our health, and our families -- recognizing that our vibrant and diverse communities are the strength of our country.

The rhetoric of the past election cycle has insulted, demonized, and threatened many of us--women, immigrants of all statuses, those with diverse religious faiths particularly Muslim, people who identify as LGBTQIA, Native and Indigenous people, Black and Brown people, people with disabilities, the economically impoverished and survivors of sexual assault. We are confronted with the question of how to move forward in the **** of national and international concern and fear.

In the spirit of democracy and honoring the champions of human rights, dignity, and justice who have come before us, we join in diversity to show our presence in numbers too great to ignore. The Women’s March on Washington will send a bold message to our new administration on their first day in office, and to the world that women's rights are human rights. We stand together, recognizing that defending the most marginalized among us is defending all of us.

We support the advocacy and resistance movements that reflect our multiple and intersecting identities. We call on all defenders of human rights to join us. This march is the first step towards unifying our communities, grounded in new relationships, to create change from the grassroots level up. We will not rest until women have parity and equity at all levels of leadership in society. We work peacefully while recognizing there is no true peace without justice and equity for all. HEAR OUR VOICE.

ESCUCHEN NUESTRAS VOCES!

*PLEASE READ* Answers to some frequently asked questions:

1. Will there be a local march in Anchorage for those who can't make it to Washington? -- Yes, stay tuned for details! Currently planning and selecting a local team of organizers for Anchorage, Fairbanks, and Juneau.

2. How can I help? -- Fill out the AK volunteer form (link below) and stay patient. We are working on creating volunteer task forces in the next couple days and will reach back out to you as soon as we can. https://goo.gl/forms/ziW1vASs8zs3Gv9w2

3. Are there plans for group transportation and hotel blocks/couch surfing? -- Yes, we will have a transportation and lodging "task force" of volunteers that will be figuring this out in Anchorage, Fairbanks, Juneau and for DC.

4. Are we working with groups like Planned Parenthood and NAACP? - Yes! The national organizers are doing an amazing job of connecting with as many groups as possible. We will also have volunteers reaching out to local AK groups as well. If you have contacts with any groups you think we should work with, include that in the volunteer form.

5. Can we change the date? -- Unfortunately, no. We have already submitted a permit for the march and many have already made travel arrangements.

6. Are we working with local press? -- Currently the national admins are handling all press. If you have a reporter reach out to you, please send me a direct message. Once we have a press packet, we will put together a AK volunteer task force to work with local press.

7. How are we ensuring that this march is safe? -- The national and local groups are working with police and marchers to ensure this protest is PEACEFUL, safe and inclusive for everyone.

8. Do we have a mission statement, website, hashtag or other press materials? -- Stay tuned, the national organizers are working on all of these and will release them soon!

9. Can men get involved? -- YES! We are a 100% inclusive march and welcome all genders, races, ages, religions, sexual orientations and ALL people!!!

10. Is this an anti-Trump march? -- From one of our amazing national admins, Fontaine Pearson: "This march is not a protest against Trump or the legitimacy of the election, but it is to shed light on women's issues, including sexual assault and workplace discrimination."

11. I am so excited, how can I help RIGHT NOW? -- Share this page and spread the word! And remember, this movement is just a few days old. We are getting our ducks in a row but we will have updates and volunteer groups organized very soon.

Just another update on the progress of the march in DC.
Hey Everyone! WOW we are incredible women!! This march is about inclusivity in every way and I wanted to update you on a few things.
1. We have a strong and highly experienced team of women of color and diverse religions, including Muslim, co-creating and working on the march logistics. The permitting is in process and we have no reason to believe we will not get it. The process is complex dealing with several locations, the national park service and police groups. It is typical for a permit to take at least a month because permitting is a complex administrative task where we co-ordinate with the above groups. We do not need a permit to march but we need a permit to rally.
2. This is not a protest, this is a rally. The rally will be in the morning. The march will be afterwards.
3.We are not selling tickets. Unless your official state group is raising money, do not buy a ticket for the march and rally themselves from any source. We spoke with Eventbrite today because tickets for the event were illegally being sold. Now on Eventbrite is a FREE ticketing site. Please register here as it will help us with a true count on the march. But no one needs a ticket for the march or rally.
4. There is no official merchandise yet. Nothing being posted or pushed anywhere benefits us.
5. We have had large numbers of the national leadership of our most important advocates and women's organizations reach out with support. We have been inundated with women artists and top female singers who want to march with us and entertain. We have a massive list and growing of incredible speakers who have reached out to us.
6. We have had some instances of women posting items of misinformation or personal beliefs that we do not endorse. We all feel anxious and scared and worried and things like this will happen. It is actually not a bad thing if it puts us in conversation with each other. But we all need to remember to breathe and respond instead of react.
7. Do not believe everything you read in the press. This is a dynamic group of very diverse women and we are working together and evolving this as we grow. Please join your state team, because we are replaceable but our strength lies in you. Please work hard to bring diversity to your state team. Everyone is welcome to this table. And believe me we have had some very difficult conversations driven by our beautiful and challenging diversity as we co-create this, working sometimes 24 hours a day to pull this together with you.
8. Security measures are part of the permitting process and a top concern for us. We will protect you in every way we can and also will have information for the states on this as we go along so everyone is clued in before you come.
9. Every woman working on the march is a volunteer. No one is being paid. We will be fundraising nationally to pay for the expenses around the March. But I'd really like you guys to throw some love to our amazing women all over the country who are volunteering their time, many with full-time jobs. And one of our core workers is due to have a little baby girl in two weeks!
10. You are spontaneously laying the groundwork for us to begin to hear each other in a conversation that is incredible. My personal belief is that calls for unity do not work until we hear each other, accept and understand our differences and have deep conversation on how to move forward. We are ever evolving in understanding. Please join us in this nationwide conversation and please keep it growing!! #HEAR OUR VOICE
