Event description
Taught by Jess Ripley, LMT

Connect to your pelvis in a safe, supportive, women-only space. Give love and awareness to your pelvic floor, booty, and hips. Nurture your hardworking body and celebrate it. Learn to shake and shimmy your booty. Bring your friends and build a booty shaking community!

Starting with pelvic floor breath meditation and kegels, and some simple stretches, we bring our pelvic awareness into torso and hip isolations and warm-ups. Drawing from bellydance and worldwide traditions of women dancing for and with each other, enjoying and sharing movement in celebration and expression of the fullness of being human. Expect to dance in a circle, as well as looking in the mirror. We will also learn specific moves that fall under the general category of Twerk, an African American social dance evolution of West African women's dances. We will combine these moves into an easy and fun dance routine that will finish the class!

You will go home feeling warm, connected to your pelvis and your friends, with more confidence and ability in hip movements and booty jiggle.

Shaking the *** is fun, freeing, and good for the physical and energy bodies! All people who identify as female are welcome.

Bring a yoga mat, knee pads if you have them, and water bottle.
Make sure to wear clothing that allows free movement of legs, pelvis, butt, and torso, i.e. nothing that constricts or compresses. Leggings are good but not compression wear.

This class is inspired by the work of Tami Kent, pelvic physical therapist, and is influenced by Sarahjoy Marsh's approach to Yoga Therapy. It incorporates traditions of women dancing in circle together to build community and relationship, and African and African diaspora social dance traditions, many of which in the Western Hemisphere were developed as a response to slavery. Honoring all women, including trans women, women of color, and white women, for their power and continued expression in the **** of oppression.
