Event description
Lauded playwright Calderon De La Barca is often referred to as the Shakespeare of Spain; his play "Life Is A Dream," is known as the Hamlet. In 1635, Calderon wrote the first version of "Life Is A Dream," and then wrote another version in 1677. Set in two separate places and times, both pieces examine the questions humanity has been asking itself since the dawn of time, most notably; are we goverened by fate, or free will?

The first "Life Is A Dream" alone causes its viewer to partake in a conversation which challenges our opinions and provokes reflective thought. Paired with its later version, however, Life Is A Dream is capable of testing the strength of everything we believe in, while reminding us of what is truly most valuable.

In February, both versions of "Life Is A Dream" will be revived by the crtically acclaimed Magis Theatre Company for the first time ever in the United States, at La **** ETC. with original music by Magis friend and composer Elizabeth Swados (1951-2016). Performances begin on February 10th, 2017 and run until Feburary 26th. Tickets are $20* and will be on sale soon. We can't wait to see you there!
