Event description
200 years ago Helen Macfarlane was born, daughter of a Barrhead mill owner. 30 years later she was in the thick of revolution, translated The Communist Manifesto into English, a feminist supporter of votes for all. Marx admired her as a Rara Avis (Rare Bird) whose ideas went way beyond just the right to vote to a vision of equality. Helen's dramatic and tragic story connects with three generations of Barrhead women of today, who find that her ideas still matter.
