Field Lab: Less Toil Better Soil
How to make great compost
All market gardens rely on good quality compost, but which system will work best for your scale and site?
Join us at our third Field Lab event with Locavore, and learn how to make great compost with expert Audrey Litterick. She’ll be discussing the core principles of carbon-nitrogen ratio, how to achieve the best results, and exploring practical ways to improve the composting system at Left Field Market Garden.
We’ll also have a look at the trial beds of kale to see how the green manures are doing.
Audrey Litterick from Earthcare Technical has over 20 years experience as a crop and environmental scientist. She has held senior research posts at both Aberdeen University and SAC, where she worked in sustainable and organic crop production, crop nutrition and soil management. During the past 10 years she has increasingly specialised in fertilisers, composting and the use of composts, digestates and other organic materials in agriculture, horticulture, landscaping and land restoration.
Hot refreshments provided. Booking is required.
If you’re a farmer, grower or land manager, book your free place now by clicking on the register button.
If you aren't a farmer, grower or landmanager, your place will be charged at £40 + VAT - please call Jane on 0131 666 2474, or email jdingwall@soilassociation.org to arrange with us rather than using this online form.

Funding for this activity is made available through the SRDP Knowledge Transfer and Innovation Fund (which is jointly funded by the Scottish Government and the European Union), with partner funding from Quality Meat Scotland, Forestry Commission Scotland, Innovative Farmers and The Prince of Wales’s Charitable Foundation.
