Event description
About the course
A knowledge thorough pedagogy is an important accompaniment to a knowledge-rich curriculum. For teachers unused to emphasising knowledge acquisition lesson by lesson the knowledge-rich curriculum can require adjustments to accustomed practices. This course covers the notion of ‘high-leverage activities’ and how these can be used to ensure teaching time focuses squarely on the central goal of appropriate knowledge acquisition.
Who should attend?
This course is for secondary classroom teachers who wish to harness the power of a knowledge-rich curriculum through their teaching.
The tutors
Tim Mullis is subject specialist leader for science at the Inspiration Trust. He studied physics at the University of Kent prior to a Masters in communication systems engineering. He gained his PGCE at the University of Bath, before working in schools across Norfolk and Suffolk. He has worked extensively for the OCR examination board and as an examiner, chief examiner, and test writer for vocational science qualifications, and edited revision guides for Pearson.
Michael Fordham is subject specialist leader for history at Inspiration Trust. He formerly taught in three state comprehensives, holding positions as head of history and assistant principal. Michael is an influential researcher, author, editor, blogger and speaker on curriculum issues. He has extensive experience as a trainer, including projects in Kazakhstan and as teacher-in-residence for the Singapore Ministry of Education. He is currently pursuing a doctorate examining how communities of expert subject teachers share, scrutinise and build collective professional-scholarly knowledge.
