Event description
Wanna make a book?
After publishing five volumes of The Cost of Paper, we’ve learned a thing or two about turning unique content into breathtaking, printable, and portable formats. We want to share this knowledge with you. Work directly with William M. Brandon III and Audrey Woodsum as you learn our DIY techniques to publish yourself, your friends, even your enemies.
This workshop, led by William Brandon and Audrey Woodsum, both authors and editors, will serve as an introduction to publishing for anyone who wants to learn more or get involved and create. The class will cover the basics of editorial, from submissions to editing to formatting to marketing. If there is enough interest, we will hold a more advanced workshop as the next step in December. Includes collaborative work and one-on-one instruction from William and Audrey.*
*students will need to bring a laptop with 1) Microsoft Word and 2) and Calibre or Kindle Reader.

William is a voracious reader and an unrepentant scribe. The co-mingling of these pleasures forged a path that lead to editing and design for numerous publications and journals. In 2015 he became the Managing Editor for 1888. He is a father, a husband, and his work has been published by The Rumpus, WIRED.com, THALO.com, Rain Crow Magazine, in a special anthology supporting the non-profit Mines Advisory Group, and in the not-for-profit fiction anthology The Cost of Paper. His novella SILENCE was published by Black Hill Press.
Audrey Y. Woodsum is a writer and editor currently working toward obtaining her BFA in Creative Writing at Chapman University in Orange, CA. In 2015, she published her first novel, The Walls We Keep, and has continued working in the literary community through collaborating with the Los Angeles Review of Books, serving as managing editor of This Is How We Cope, a Chapman University literary publication, and working with 1888 Center, a not-for-profit cultural center in Old Towne Orange focused on the community and the arts. Audrey continues to write fiction and poetry as she prepares to move on to her next step of literary involvement and education.
