Event description

Would you like to develop and invigorate your drawing?
Come and join experienced artist and teacher Jane Frederick for her popular drawing course which is designed to give you a flavour of the traditional Art School workshop in a warm and relaxed environment and help you to develop your confidence in drawing from observation.
Located in the spacious new Colchester MakerSpace, The Drawing School will introduce you to new drawing and looking skills, working with light and shade and help you to really get to grips with tonal range, enabling you to inject your drawing with depth and visual impact. Sessions will teach you how to really look and understand what you are drawing as well as encouraging you to be ‘Bold, Loose and Accurate’ with your approach to drawing.
Each workshop will involve a stimulating subject to draw and discuss together and is suitable for complete beginners up to professional artists who may wish to develop their skills. All that is required is curiosity and a willingness to have a go and try something new! All participants will build a portfolio of works so if you are planning on applying for specialist art study in the future, this might be the course for you.
Jane Frederick has taught drawing at Colchester School of Art for over two decades and has a wealth of experience encouraging drawing development at all levels of experience. She is passionate about making drawing accessible to all and regularly runs gallery based workshops for complete beginners as well as experienced artists. You can view examples of her practice at
