Overview:
The MED SLED Evacuation course is designed to provide education on the MED SLED evacuation device. The course will define the evacuation process, provide training on evacuation equipment and discuss evacuation procedures. This two-hour course prepares healthcare responders to utilize and setup MED SLED equipment. The healthcare responders will determine and use appropriate resources and equipment to conduct evacuation of patients during a disaster.
Learning Objectives:

Opening and setup of the MED SLED prior to patient contact
Securing the Patient in the Med Sled (2 or 3-person procedure based on patient weight)
Lowering the Med Sled to the Floor (2 or 3-person procedure based on patient weight) Structure the healthcare facility Emergency Treatment Area to support medical operations in response a mass casualty incident.
Pulling the Med Sled to the Stairwell (2 or 3-person procedure) Perform Simple Triage and Rapid Treatment© (START) and JumpSTART procedures within the Emergency Treatment Area during a hospital response to a mass casualty incident involving contamination.
Descend the Stairs using the “Bucket Brigade” Technique

All Hospital staff members who maybe tasked with helping evacuate the facility during an event.

Must have the ability to lift, drag and control the patient during the use of the MED SLED. The training manikin used is approximately 180lbs. This simulates an averaged sized *****. Course completion is dependent on the ability of the student to utilize the equipment properly and safely.

This course will meet the required annual evacuation MED SLED training offered by Banner Health Emergency Management

This course utilized three evaluation strategies:

Participant feedback during training discussion
Group discussion of MED SLED Operations and preparedness concepts
