Event description
Have you lusted after fancy art yarns, but balked at the prices?Do you care about our environment?Do you just plain love yarn?
Then come play with ours!
We have a collection of nearly 50 pounds of high-quality yarns, curated by experienced yarn lovers and sorted by color -- ready for you to choose your favorites and make your very own gorgeous, one-of-a-kind skein of upcycled art yarn.
The collection includes yarns donated to SCRAP in quantities too small to be sold individually, so you will be keeping yarn out of the landfill, as well as making something beautiful and unique, at a fraction of the cost of similar retail "stuff" yarns.  And the fact that it's upcycling makes it just that much better.
The depth and quality of this yarn collection makes it easy and fun to create a stunning skein of art yarn.  Among our yarns you'll spot bits and ***** of upscale brands like Malabrigo, Rowan, madelinetosh, Noro, Koigu, Trendsetter, Anny Blatt, Tahki, Classic Elite, Manos del Uruguay, Lana Grossa, Katia, Blue Moon Fiber Arts, Cascade, Berroco, Crystal Palace, Opal, and much, much more...
We will have loads of yarn (of course), niddy-noddys, a handout, and hands-on guidance to help you create the skein of your dreams.
Your workshop fee includes the first 150 g of yarn you make; if you make a larger skein, the additional yarn will be charged at $1.00 per 10 g.

* What is upcycled art yarn, you ask?
Well, "art yarn" can refer to any kind of non-standard yarn creation. In this case, it means a skein of yarn made by tying together lengths of up to 30 or so different yarns, combining texture and color to create a dynamic skein that continually changes as you knit, crochet, weave or...
Dyers, this is for you too!  You can put together a natural-colored skein and overdye it for an even more unique creation. We strive for mostly natural fibers in our collection (well, besides the glitzy stuff) - and if a strand of your skein doesn't dye as expected, well, just cut the knots and remove it!
