Bellydance Cohesion dancer enrichment courses are for (current and aspiring) bellydancers who:

Yearn for the type of mastery over their body that only disciplined technical practice can provide.
Desire a more complete understanding of how bellydance has developed through history.
Crave a stronger connection to the rhythms, instruments, and songs traditionally associated with bellydance.
Are interested in improving their solo improvisation as well as choreography retention skills.
Want to attain the ability to more effortlessly play American style finger cymbals, as well as Middle-Eastern rhythms on sagaat, while dancing.
Enjoy learning about the expectations that culture and history have embedded in bellydance before they (and perhaps in order to) break them.
Might be struggling with their relationship to (or ability to communicate their thoughts about) Orientalism and cultural appropriation with respect to their bellydance practice.
Who might be dissatisfied with the limitations of and misunderstandings between the sub-genre categories that have been drawn between bellydance styles: “Tribal Fusion” vs. “Oriental” and who desire an interdisciplinary approach to this dance form that values and incorporates lessons from both of these major categories.

“Throughout each stage of this program I distill and present the knowledge I’ve gained in my many years of practice and formal academic research into bellydance movement, music, and history. I believe working toward a deep intellectual and somatic understanding of these lessons will enrich your dance beyond measure, as well as increase your love for its struggles and triumphs.”
— April Rose

Individuals do not need any bellydance experience to enroll in the Stage 1 Enrichment Course, but one or more year of consistent study in bellydance technique beforehand would be helpful. Once enrolled, participants will receive a list of suggested listening and reading to prepare for each stage.
Each enrichment stage ends with an in-class assessment. The purpose of the assessment is for each individual to track their progress and receive feedback. A participant’s performance on the assessment will not affect their ability to enroll in the next stage, as long as they have completed the entirety of the previous stage.
