MAR/APR 2019 SESSION:
Theme: "Mid-Century Masters"Resident Instructor: Sheila Daube
Time for a deep dive into the lives and work of three great abstract artists: Grace Hartigan, Joan Mitchell and Helen Frankenthaler.  These painters broke through the gender barriers of their times to launch what would become an American art form: Abstract Expressionism.     Often overlooked, their art seen as lesser or supplemental to the male artists of the 1950's, these women led full lives as artists: the drama, the tragedy, the partying, the gossip and, always, the work.     We will explore their life stories, the history of the time, the hostile environment of the art world and the disdain for women artists, as well as their art. Prepare to channel their techniques, materials, techniques and passion for individual canvases, as well as a large collaborative piece based on each artist. Buckle up, we're going for a wild ride!Supply List:• 3 canvases• various colors in acrylic paints• other painting supplies you have on-hand(get 10% off with a student discount from Artist & Craftsman)• Cost $199 (6 classes)• Wednesdays AM, 10:30am-1:30pm• For intermediate painters• Student parking available in back lotBe sure to pick up a Student Parking Pass at the front desk when you arrive.
