Event description

OSHA 8-Hour HAZWOPER Annual Refresher Training
Have you taken a 24 or 40 hour OSHA HAZWOPER course, and need to renew your certification?
Don't be out of compliance with OSHA regulations. This full-day training course meets the requirements outlined in OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120 for 8 (eight) hours of annual refresher training for workers at hazardous waste sites. This program is designed for general site workers who remove hazardous waste or who are exposed or potentially exposed to hazardous substances or health hazards and who have already taken the HAZWOPER 24-hour or HAZWOPER 40-hour certification training. This program covers topics pertaining to workplace hazards associated with Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER).
Topics Include: HAZWOPER regulations, site characterization, toxicology, hazard recognition, personal protective equipment, decontamination, medical surveillance, confined space entry and emergency procedures and will include a combination of lectures, class exercises and hands-on training.
Benefits from Attending this Program: Employers that invest in workplace safety and health can expect to reduce fatalities, injuries, and illnesses. This will result in cost savings in a variety of areas, such as lowering workers' compensation costs and medical expenses, avoiding OSHA penalties, and reducing costs to train replacement employees and conduct accident investigations. In addition, employers often find that changes made to improve workplace safety and health can result in significant improvements to their organization's productivity and financial performance.
Instructor: David Sweeney is the former Assistant Commissioner of the NJDEP Site Remediation Program which oversees the investigation and clean-up of contaminated sites in New Jersey. His experience involves various complex site remediation cases undertaken in New Jersey including CERCLA, RCRA, ISRA, Spill Act and Voluntary clean ups. Prior to working at NJDEP, Mr. Sweeney was employed by the Camden County Health Department for fourteen years. At Camden County he managed environmental programs under the County Environmental Health Act including Emergency Response and was the manager of their environmental laboratory. Mr. Sweeney's background is in environmental science and public health with a Bachelor’s degree in Natural Science.
