Event description
Dear Tourism Partners, Friends, and Industry Colleagues~
The Greater Newark Convention & Visitor Bureau is thrilled to invite you to our 3rd  Annual National Travel and Tourism Scholarship and Awards luncheon.
Originated in 1983 by a congressional resolution, National Travel and Tourism Week (NTTW) is an annual tradition for the U.S. travel community where travel and tourism professionals unite to celebrate the contributions and accomplishments of the U.S. travel community!
In 2017, the GNCVB made a commitment to celebrate our industry by providing scholarships to Newark students studying Hospitality and Tourism management.  As leaders in the industry, we are proud to work with Essex County College and Farleigh Dickinson University for the third year to award two (2) Scholarships valued at $1500.00 each to students who live/work in the City of Newark.  In addition, the GNCVB will provide a paid internship during the 2019-2020 school year!
This year, we have collaborated with the Newark Regional Business Partnership (NRBP) to offer more opportunities to network and expand our reach amongst diverse industries.  We will also select four (4) industry leaders who have made a sizeable impact on Newark's tourism community:
~Tourism Volunteer of the Year ~~ Outstanding Business Partner ~ ~ Social Influencer of the Year~
The Liz Del Tufo,‘Tourism Lifetime Trailblazer Achievement Award" to an individual for their outstanding service in the Newark Tourism community

About Liz:
Ms. Del Tufo is one of Newark’s great residents, activists, educators, historians, and hostesses. In 1974, she was one of the founders of the Newark Preservation and Landmarks Committee, which worked to protect our City’s historic architecture, ensuring that our past serves our future.     Working with The Newark Museum in 1976, she began the hugely successful “Newark Tours” program in the 1970s. In 1980, she became the first Essex County Director of Cultural Affairs, and in 1986 the first Executive Director of the Newark Boys Chorus School. In both of those positions, she created a lasting legacy, by expanding the arts and empowering Newark artists.     In 1990, she convinced the administration to create the Newark Landmarks and Historic Preservation Commission, which, under state law and city ordinance, protects Newark sites on Historic Registers, serving as commission chair for 16 years. Recently, she produced a DVD, “Newark Through the Ages,” which she uses for lectures, put her tours program on a website, and in 2008, received an honorary doctorate from New Jersey Institute of Technology for her “Outstanding Service to the Community.”
