Event description
AS SMALL AS A WORLD is a collection of stories that feature hurricane survivors of the American south: Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas, and Puerto Rico. Set in the wake of the major southern hurricanes of the 21st Century thus far—Katrina, Irma, and Maria—the respective characters in this compilation are forced to confront profound loss, negotiate trauma, forge new and strange relationships, come-of-age, and reconsider what it means to have a home in and around the United States. Each story is told from a different and unique point of view from converging diasporas, creating a surreal chorus of southern American voices that rarely receive airtime.
*The cover image is inspired by the collection's title story.

BLACK BOX is a site for play, dialogue, and creative risk taking that encourages artists of all disciplines to engage with others connected to their subject matter. Each program affords the opportunity for cultural producers to share in-progress works on the art and culture of the African Diaspora in front of an audience for engagement. It also provides a space for arts enthusiasts to view compelling work by some of the most thought-provoking artists working today.
