Join us for our Third Quarter General Meeting and Book Signing with Guest John Warley, '67.

John Warley is a member of the class of 1967 and an author.

Last year, under the auspices of The Citadel Foundation, Evening Post Books of Charleston published Warley's Stand Forever, Yielding Never; The Citadel in the 21st Century. It's a history of the college, focused on the years since General Clark retired as president.

"In Pat Conroy's iconic 1980 novel 'The Lords of Discipline,' protagonist Will McLean vows to write the history of his military college.  Conroy's classmate, John Warley, '67, has deftly achieved that in his modern history of The Citadel. Interwoven with the remembrances of alumni, faculty and college and community leaders, Warley's narrative account is an enlightening chronicle of change over time, a microcosm of our larger American experience-as told from the vantage point of one who wears the ring." --Jonathan Haupt, executive director, Pat Conroy Literary Center.

In addition to the history, IHe is the author of "The Citadel at War," the narrative history of the school etched into the walls of the War Memorial sponsored by my class. John wrote the 35 word inscription that greets visitors to the Memorial:
When Country calls,
The Citadel answers.
The brave warriors immortalized here
Honor all who went before and who follow.
Duty done, they rest
So we may live free.
Speak softly in the company of heroes.

He has a new book, historical fiction, coming out next month.. John lives in Beaufort, SC and will be visiting our Houston Citadel Club for the first time.

Please join us as John explores the years of tradition and excellence we know as  Citadel history. Following John's reading and discussion, copies of Stand Forever, Yielding Never will be available and John will personally inscribe.   "Light bites" will be provided.  Let's change this to:   Light bites and drink ticket (tea, well drinks, wine or beer) included.
