Event description

In recognition of the Estonian Republic’s 100th anniversary, please join former president Toomas Hendrik Ilves and Rainer Sternfeld, for a conversation about Estonia today and the prospects for the republic. As a member of NATO and of the European Union, how well is Estonia, along with its Baltic neighbors, faring as an independent nation? What are the challenges and opportunities it faces within Europe and with neighboring Russia? How does Estonia's complicated past influence it's future?
The evening also includes an opening reception for the exhibition, "Estonia Through 100 Pairs of Eyes” with the curator and artistic director, Kaire van der Toorn-Guthan, and co-curator and photographer, Toomas Volkmann. This exhibit tells the story of the country through 100 portraits of Estonians, ages one to one hundred, each born in a different year between 1918 and 2018. These portraits are accompanied by the subject's personal history and together offer a glimpse into the complex history, ancient and beautiful landscapes, and determined people of Estonia.
Program and exhibition viewing from 6:00-8:00 PM. Remarks by artists will begin at 6:30 PM followed by remarks from President Toomas-Hendrik at 7:00 PM.
Refreshments will be served. The exhibition is open for complimentary viewing Monday - Friday from 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM and during World Affairs programs.
