Event description
April 17 is going to be one exciting evening at Swirl - we have not 1 or 2 but 3 legendary French winemakers in the store for a meet and greet and tasting. The Kermit Lynch portfolio is known for its top notch producers from Italy and France and tonight we will be showing 12 wines from Champagne, the Rhone Valley and Burgundy poured by Angeline Templier, J. Lassalle Champagne; Daniel Brunier, Domaine du Vieux Telegraphe; and Pierre de Benoist, Domaine de Villaine.  See the featured wines listed below plus we'll have some delicious French cheeses to pair with the wines. Reservations are required to attend - THIS is a do not miss event!!
Champagne J. Lassalle is a small, family-owned house named in honor of its founder, Jules Lassalle, who established the firm in 1942 in the village of Chigny-Les-Roses. The patriarch died in 1982, and his wife Olga and her daughter Chantal Decelle-Lassalle took the reins. Chantal Decelle-Lassalle and her daughter, Angeline Templier, now run the house, the latter joining the estate as winemaker in 2006, spanning three generations of mothers and daughters. J. Lassalle produces about 12,500 cases of Champagne annually; the estate’s vineyards are farmed by organic methods. The production is very traditional, all done by hand, and the various cuvées tend to age three to five years in bottle before disgorgement.  All cuvées are aged extensively once in bottle—even the non-vintage cuvées, which are a minimum of five years old. This results in an astonishing complexity and depth from the beginning of their range up to the luxury cuvées.

Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe  One cannot think of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the most celebrated cru of the southern Rhône, without thinking of Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe. The Brunier family is legendary in its own right, having been rooted to the enigmatic plateau known as La Crau for over one hundred years. The wines of Vieux Télégraphe evoke the concept of terroir in its purest form: they reflect their dramatic climate, the rough terrain that defines the soil, their full sun exposure at a higher altitude, the typicity of the varietals with an emphasis on Grenache, and of course, the influence of their caretakers, the Brunier family. For many, La Crau is Châteauneuf-du-Pape’s grandest cru.
The range of the Bruniers’ other projects have served to express the variety of terroirs in the region.  Domaine Les Pallières is undeniably one of the greatest, longest-running properties of the Southern Rhône—outside the village of Gigondas, woven into the foothills of the beautiful and brooding Dentelles de Montmirail. The domaine had been a continuously running farm within the same family since the fifteenth century! We'll also show a wine from their Ventoux property, where they have been able to complement their portfolio with more affordable cuvées that showcase the diversity of terroirs within their holdings.

Domaine de Villaine is located in Bouzeron, nestled in the Côte Chalonnaise region between Chassagne-Montrachet and Santenay to the north and Rully and Mercurey to the south. Burgundy legend Aubert de Villaine of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, and his wife Pamela bought this domaine in 1973. Their nephew, Pierre de Benoist, applies since his arrival in 2001, the same rigor and discipline transmitted by his uncle to work in the vineyards: organic agricultural methods, control of the yield through selective planting, manual harvesting, natural vinification…The de Villaines farm three appellations within the Côte Chalonaise, namely Bouzeron (Aligoté), Rully (Chardonnay and Pinot Noir) and Mercurey (Pinot Noir). Their single-vineyard parcels are stunning examples of what this complex and amazing terroir can yield.  Pierre currently directs the domaine, upholding the sense of tradition, excellence, and standards for which it has become so well-known.
