Event description
We want to learn from you! You are invited to attend a community discussion with other community stakeholders to help us improve the health of African American mothers and babies in San Bernardino County (SBC).
The Perinatal Equity Initiative (PEI) is a statewide effort to address the causes of persistent inequality in African American infant mortality and infant health indicators to identify best practices and policies to address these disparities. While significant declines in African American infant mortality have been achieved, the rate of African American infant mortality is more than double the infant mortality rate for all race/ethnicities in SBC.
Harder+Company Community Research is a research and consulting firm working with the SBC Department of Public Health (DPH) to organize community discussions. The purpose of these community discussions is to understand the contributing factors to black infant mortality, to understand how African American women are supported before and throughout the course of their pregnancy, and to identify potential interventions to address African American infant health disparities.
As a community stakeholder, your expertise will be used to help develop a perinatal equity plan for SBC. This plan will be submitted to the California Department of Public Health in an effort to bring important funding to SBC to address African American infant health disparities through targeted interventions designed to best support African American mothers throughout their pregnancies.
