Program Objective: Eating Disorder and Substance Use Disorder professionals coming together to learn ways in which to use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to work more integratively with these co-occurring illnesses. 
Learning Objectives: 
1. Attendees will have a basic understanding of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and how it differs from earlier cognitive behavioral models. 
2. Attendees will have a basic understanding of how to use the ACT matrix to explore the function of behaviors. 
3. Attendees will understand some of the functions of eating disorder behavior, substance use and process addictive behaviors.
4. Attendees will understand creative hopelessness as a way to conceptualize the addictive and reinforcing cycle of eating disorder behavior, substance use and process addictive behavior. 
5. Attendees will understand values as a way to give context for recovery from co-occurring illnesses. 
About the Presenters:
Amber Herring is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a Licensed Addictions Counselor. Currently in her private practice, Healing Journey Counseling, Amber works with individuals, couples and families find healing from eating disorders, substance use disorders and process addictions. Bringing over 10 years of professional experience to the mental health field, Amber has varied clinical experience to include treatment in all levels of care. Most recently, Amber lead the development of the co-occurring substance use and eating disorder programming at Eating Recovery Center and is passionate about shifting the way the treatment of co-occurring illnesses is managed in mental health. Using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Amber helps individuals and families address the root of the constellation of their behaviors and to connect to values in the recovery process.

Mikki Morris, LCSW has worked extensively in the treatment of eating disorders at various levels of care, spending the past 9 years as a Primary Therapist in ***** care at Eating Recovery Center. After earning her BSW from the University of St Thomas (MN), she moved to rural Colorado to volunteer with Americorp, working in various roles for a local homeless organization. She then moved onto working in intensive residential treatment for adolescents in the Denver area, followed by earning her MSW at Colorado State University. Since that time, Mikki has become specialized in the utilization of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) in her therapeutic approach to clients. She values her role as a therapist as an opportunity to get to know each client as a unique and important individual who deserves to be seen and accepted as they are, and to meet them where they are at.
