Event description
The American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) Criteria provides admission, continued stay and discharge criteria that professionals use to guide and justify decision making regarding the Level of Care a client should be referred to, and treatment planning.
The primary goal of the workshop is to develop and/or enhance the knowledge and skills of participants to correctly utilize the American Society of Addiction Medicines (ASAM) Criteria 3rd. Edition. While the workshop will provide an overview of the key components of the ASAM Criteria, e.g., levels of care, dimensions of assessment, risk ratings and criteria, the primary focus will be on the "Assessment Considerations" of ASAM's Six Dimensions and how information collected using the Addiction Severity Index (ASI) informs them.
Dr. Coyne is a nationally recognized clinician and ***** educator providing evidence-based learning solutions e.g., training, education, technical assistance and consultation services regarding the assessment, treatment, and outcomes monitoring of substance abuse disorders. He has provided training in over 40 states, and has worked with several states, and one other country on the development and implementation of web-based performance improvement and outcomes monitoring systems.
He is one of the most, if not the most experienced educator in the country regarding the correct administration and application of the Addiction Severity Index (ASI). While he is most notably recognized for his work regarding the clinical, program evaluation and research uses of standardized assessment tools e.g., ASI, and Uniform Patient Placement Criteria e.g., ASAM, he also has extensive experience in the design, delivery and evaluation of training, technical assistance and technology transfer nationally on a variety of topic areas and projects in the substance abuse field.
