Event description
During this workshop Thomas Clift will review the basics of an Artificial Intelligence (AI) system. A few references to online resources that will assist participants in learning more in-depth knowledge about AI systems will be shared. Selected organizations that are using AI will be reviewed, and the influence of AI on their business practices discussed in the framework of the business and the impact on the customers; in some, cases those in the room. Additionally, links to dynamic sites from which you can learn about the ever-expanding uses of AI will be shared.
Optional pre-workshop activities include:
1.) Recommended reading: I, Robot by Isaac Asimov. As an alternative, watch the movie of the same name.
2.) Watch a Terminator series movie.
About our presenter:
CAPT Thomas Clift, USN (Ret.) served as the second senior officer on the Precommissioning Unit of the nuclear aircraft carrier, USS Carl Vinson CVN-70 that began in January 1980. The world’s first AI-based Command and Control system for an aircraft carrier and a battle group was developed prior to commissioning in 1982. Carnegie Mellon’s AI lab, the Stanford Research Institute and MIT’s AI lab were key participants. Since retirement from the Navy in 1984 Thomas has consulted in the United States and South East Asia, and taught programming, business, and math courses in several institutions of higher learning. His most recent retirement was from the Jacksonville DeVry/Keller campus where he served as Academic Officer.
