Experience Level: Beginners welcome!

Benjamin Franklin brought broom corn seed to America from Egypt in 1790. The art of broom making was a serious industry in America until synthetic brooms took over the market in the 1960s. Bev Larson, one of America's most talented artistic broom makers, will introduce you to the colorful history and technical craft of broom making.
Day One of this workshop will focus on the basics of hand tying a broom. Start with a simple whisk broom and work your way up to the angel wing or turkey wing whisk. You will go home with several small brooms at the end of the day.
On Day Two, you will learn to tie a broom with a handle. You can choose a cobweb broom or a flat broom made with a tobacco stick handle.
The Materials Fee will depend on the brooms you choose to make. Fees are payable to the instructor.

Whisk broom: $20.00

About the Instructor: From the Indiana Artisan website, Bev says: I have been weaving since 1988 and teaching since 1999. I love to share the joy of basket weaving with those around me and have done so by teaching in Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, and the Caribbean on the Basket Weaving Cruises. Making basket weaving fun, relaxing, and inspiring is my goal. In 2003 I won the Eiteljorg Museums Weavers Challenge. In 2009 I added broom making as an outshoot of weaving and it too in now a passion. In 2016 I received the honor of being named an Indiana Artisan by the State of Indiana.
