Event description
This 4 to 5-hour experiential journey into #Agrotherapy[i] is appropriate for a wide array of individuals - parents, adults, older teens, young adults, and clinicians working in the mental health, substance use treatment, and neurodevelopmental fields.
Dream Catcher Meadows offers a unique space for social, recreational and vocational experiences as well as complementary approaches to healing through nature and with animals.  Enjoy a multi-sensory "#GoatYoga" session in or out of the pasture with gentle hand raised goats, feed and hold chickens, brush a pig, and find out how much kitchen trash is [pig or chicken] edible, compostable and recyclable. Learn about the importance of nature in our gut-brain-biome axis. [Did you know that soil, grasses, and ruminants (goats, sheep, alpacas, horses, etc.) are a source of Bacillus subtilis, our "good gut bacteria?" Spending time around them can benefit in more ways than one!]
A one hour "didactic" will review the literature - discovering the wellness benefits of Green Care,[ii],[iii] Care Farming,[iv] Horticultural Therapy,[v],[vi],[vii] and Farm Animal-assisted Therapy[viii],[ix], as well as providing an overview of neurodevelopmental issues.  Enjoy a catered plant-based dinner on picnic blankets.  The evening will end with a meditation walk through the forest and an optional fireside "healing trauma" discussion.
The registration fee ($50) will be used to pay for the dinner ($20) plus a tax deductible contribution ($30).   All donations help pay for feed, hay, and vet bills for the care and keeping of the animals at Dream Catcher Meadows.  We will have a rain date in case of weather related concerns.
