Community Neighborhood Watch 1st Annual Community BBQ Cook-Off is an event organized to celebrate the mastery of the cooks within the Huger/Wando communities and to encourage community camaraderie.
Cook-Off Guidelines

Head Cook/Captain and Alternate Head Cook/Captain: Designated by the participating group
Head Judge: In charge of the cook-off; will follow all judging protocol to ensure fairness; cannot eat any of the food before the competition; and will make the final ruling on discrepancies and casts the tie breaker.
Approved Contest Meats: Competitors must cook each meat: Beef brisket, pork ribs, and chicken.

Gate will open to the public: 1pm
***** public admission @ 1pm: $10.00
Children public admission @ 1pm (0-12 years) $5.00
Refreshments will be sold on site

There will be thirty (30) spaces available @ dimension of 20 x 20.

Teams Responsibility
Competitors must cook each meat: Beef brisket, pork ribs, and chicken. The team may prep. the meats in advance of the cook-off, but the meats Must be Cooked on site.


Bring own tents, table(s), and all relative equipment.

Set up tents from the north to avoid sunlight.
Designate head cook (captain) and alternate head cook (captain)
At the end of the cook-off, the competitors may sell or give away their food
Bring own music subject/restricted to its own cooking area.
Each team is responsible for the maintenance and cleanup of its cooking area. If not, the team will be barred from future events.
Each team should have a working fire extinguisher 5lb.ABC.
Alcoholic beverage will NOT be Allowed, Served or Sold to the public on the ground. If breached, the team will be removed. No money will be refunded.
No judge may participate in the cook-off or be a friend or family of cook-off team member. No cook-off team member maybe a judge or a friend or family of a judge.

Judging Responsibility
There will be 5 judges: Four judges and a Head Judge. Only four (4) judges will evaluate the food. The Head judge will cast a vote in the case of a discrepancy and a tie vote. The Results Will Be Final.
Any sauces, garnish may be used during the cooking process only, and not as presentation to the judges.
Competitor food submitted for judging must be in **** size pieces for 5 judges.
The judging will be a blind tasting

Each team will be assigned a “blind” ticket number to facilitate judging.
One half of the ticket will be placed into 2 envelopes that will be taped to each team's table.
Judges will visit all cooking areas BEFORE (9am) the teams begin cooking; and the Head Judge will remove one envelope to be placed in the judges’ box.
The second envelope will remain taped to each team's table.
At the conclusion of the cooking time, the Head Cook/Captain or Alternate Head Cook/Captain will bring the food sampling, along with the second envelope to the judging table.
The Head Judge will open the envelope; match it to the 1st envelope to verify the number on the score cards.
Judging will begin and the appropriate points will be assigned. The head judge signs off on each card.
These steps will be taken before each team delivers its food for judging
The food will be scored on a scale of 1-5 (5 being the best) using the following criteria:


Cooking area and Personal Appearance
Presentation
Appearance of Entry
Tenderness of Entry
Flavor of Entry

The team with the highest score wins 1st Prize: $200.00; 2nd Prize: $125.00; and 3rd Prize: Trophy.
If there is a tie, The Head Judge’s score card will be used to break the tie. The Results Will Be Final.
