Event description

A Sew and Spa retreat to start the big 2020 year off successfully.

This event is meant for you if you are a sew-a-holic who loves sewing loads and loads at home but understand the full value of sewing along with others too. And who isn't ready to retreat away to a plush place and hide from the weather for a full weekend? You don't have to step outside at all all weekend if you don't want. All our sewing and eating activities happen in the same large room.

We'll kick things off at 4p.m on Friday 3rd January 2020 but you could book into your room from 2 and get accustomed to your new surroundings and roomie, if you have never met them. Chance number 1 of making new friends. That evening, after setting up, we will hand over our pre-made swops (not person specific, so much easier to make) and then have dinner. When you're full to the rafters, we can crack on with the business of sewing whatever you bring along. If you've forgotten anything you need, there'll be a pop-up shop who can hopefully provide any last minute goodies. I'll be posting and adding helpful information about all of this as time goes by.
On the Saturday, after breakfast, more sewing time. Make the most of having other sewists around to get some help with a tricky issue or maybe use the space to baste quilts. Laurel Byrne will be running 3 two-hourly teaching sessions during the day for small groups of 5 people. They will happen in the 'break-out' area and are optional but are an opportunity for those who love to be taught rather than 'just' sew their own projects. Nothing is final yet but Laurel has mentioned a bargello landscape. Don't know about you but that intrigues me for sure. I've also had interest from another local quilter extraordinaire to teach but that's still being discussed, so can't reveal any of that just now. All in the name of creative fun and skill sharing.
I want to set times for small groups of ladies to go to the spa together, as I reckon we all need to make the most of our weekend in the hotel. It is called a Sew & Spa retreat after all. I think most will prefer the idea of going over there in a small group, as going alone isn't as comfortable. I'll schedule visits so that they don't interfere with your Laurel class or any other set timed events. Again the spa visits are optional but I hope with the group setting more people will actually seize the opportunity to spoil themselves. The idea of a retreat is to relax and escape away and in this case, escape away to stitch mainly but if you can add a spa time into the mix, more the better!
Another set event will be a quiz on the Saturday, as well as a Show and Tell and a little 'Quilting Bee Challenge'. The challenge will be on the Sunday morning and run for an hour. I picture something like the GBSB challenges but for quilters. All in the name of having a giggle and no expertise required whatsoever. Possibly prizes?! We all love a prize.
More sewing time and then I'm afraid home time at 4 on Sunday January 5th. 2020. Leaving with a smile, loads of happy memories, new friends, possibly even a finished project or two and fully refreshed for a busy week ahead of 'normal' life. Starting 2020 off in such style and creative connection is exactly why I'm running this retreat.

FAQs
Are all meals included in the price?
Yes, as well as morning and afternoon teas. We will eat all meals in the main room, so they're private.
Will there be a pop-up shop selling some fabric and haberdashery?
There sure will be.
Do I have to join in with the spa bit?
Definitely not. Nothing is compulsory but take a look at the spa section on the hotel website, maybe you could get your nails done instead. You will need to book that yourself directly with the spa centre though.
What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?
The hotel is very easy to get to from the M56 or M53, off the A540. There is a very big carpark but if you are bringing a machine, please don't struggle carrying it from the car to the entrance; park up by the door first and take your machine into reception or ask for assistance. Some machines are very heavy. I may well get a trolley, so that people can borrow it to transport stuff. The amount of stuff we take to retreats can get big!
What can I bring into the event?
Sewing machines can be bought of course but they're not compulsory; if you'd rather do hand sewing projects, you're more than welcome to do so. All machines will be PAT tested on the Friday to comply with the hotel's health & safety policy.
How can I contact the organiser with any questions?
You can email me, Diane - stitchscape@gmail.com
