Event description
Eating is a spiritual practice - a practice of presence, of gratitude, of profound contemplation. The act of eating is an opportunity to look deeply at the goodness of our lives and to delight in the joyful journey of awakening. During this retreat, Ven. Somā will lead us in meditation and contemplation exercises to bring us to a profound appreciation of the role food has in the Buddhist path.
This retreat will include periods of Vipassana meditation, interspersed with lectures, mindful eating of organic homemade meals, and gardening.

ABOUT THE TEACHER:
Sister Soma is a Buddhist monk ordained in the Theravāda tradition. As the co-founder of Buddhist Insights, a non-profit organization connecting people with monastics in NYC, she has learned the Dharma through the perspective of monks and nuns of all different traditions, and incorporates aspects from all of them in her own practice. Her spiritual path is inspired by the social engagement of her preceptor, Venerable Paññāvati Bhikkhuni; by the knowledge and wisdom of Ven. Bhikkhu Bodhi; and by the open-mindedness of her teacher, Bhante Suddhāso.
