Designing Work So Women and Folks of Color Can Lead from the Center
In 2004 researchers from the University of Exeter identified an unusual pattern of bias in corporate hiring - when women are hired into executive leadership positions they are often hired during times of crisis. They called this phenomena the glass cliff, referring to the high stakes and high probability of failure women tend to inherit in these scenarios. Today’s glass cliff moments exist outside of the C-suite and affect people of color and women at all levels of power. Join us on September 11th as we explore the unexamined risks that women and people of color experience in the workplace. We’ll talk about key features of glass cliff moments as well as the structural and systemic biases that create and perpetuate them. And we’ll talk about what people of color and women are doing to step off the glass cliff and into their power and what companies can do to design workplaces where everyone thrives.

Daesha (she/her) has made a life and a living shifting how racism, power, and oppression impact the health of individuals and communities. Daesha is a frequent public speaker on ethical storytelling, decolonizing research & evaluation, and using human-centered design in systems change and community engagement strategies. Daesha identifies as a first generation South Asian cis-woman of color.
