We are pleased to invite you to a Mechanical Surface Characterization workshop at our office in Vernon Hills, IL.
This workshop introduces three techniques for surface characterization: instrumented indentation, scratch, and tribology. These techniques provide critical insight into the mechanical properties and behaviors of materials and devices, including hardness, scratch resistance, and friction.
Attendees to this course will learn the theoretical fundamentals of indentation, scratch, and tribology measurements, within the context of real world examples. The best practices for a variety of measurements and techniques will be considered, along with some advanced applications. Attendees will also gain hands on experience operating the instruments used to make these measurements and the software used for analyzing the resulting data.
In addition to these theoretical and practical foundations, attendees will learn about the latest developments in surface testing from Prof. Ange-Therese Akono of Northwestern University. Professor Akono has years of experience studying the mechanical properties of materials at the macro, micro, and nanoscale, with a special focus on composite and cementitious materials of biological and geological origin.
