Event description
This two-day FEES Training Course is essential for starting your journey toward FEES competency. Taught by a team of energetic and experienced clinicians who still carry an active caseload, this course is both informative and fun. Course instructors have been deemed competent for supervision and training in FEES by board certified Otolaryngologists. This course is divided into two parts: lecture in the morning, then hands-on practice in the afternoon. A light breakfast is provided at sign in and lunch is provided both days.
Lecture includes:

A review of recent research regarding instrumental swallowing assessments, specifically FEES
A review of the nasal, pharyngeal, and laryngeal anatomy, including normal and abnormal variants
A review of normal swallowing in adults and geriatrics
Information is provided on advocating for instrumentals, developing a FEES program, and incorporating FEES into clinical practice
A FEES protocol including anatomy/physiology assessment, bolus trials, and intervention application
An overview of rating scales available for use with FEES
A review of clips from recorded FEES exams to allow the participants to begin to interpret FEES

Hands-On Practice:
Hands-on supervision is provided both afternoons to allow participants the opportunity to learn to maneuver the endoscope for a swallowing assessment. There is a focus on obtaining optimal view of the larynx while keeping in mind the ergonomics of the endoscopist. Most participants obtain at least 15 normal passes with quality instruction and feedback.
Learning Objectives:
Following this course, participants will be able to:
