Event description
Formatting Your Data for Analysis: When working with data, many of us use the spreadsheet to enter and organize the information we collect in the field, lab, or from other sources. Good data organization is the foundation of your research project. Spreadsheet programs are very useful graphical interfaces for designing data tables and handling very basic data quality control functions. However, many times these choices do not lead to data easily being read by programing languages such as R or Python.
By the end of workshop, you should be able to:

Implement better practices in data table formatting
Identify and address common formatting mistakes Understand approaches for handling dates in spreadsheets
Utilize basic quality control features and data manipulation practices
Effectively export data from spreadsheet programs

Survival Skills is a new beginner-level workshop collection for researchers presented by DAVIS @ OU Libraries. These workshops cover basic data and computing skills needed in all research fields. No prior experience needed (i.e., no prerequisites.)
