Event description
This nature-based experience is designed specifically for mental health professionals and supports participants to experience stillness, quiet, and personal reflection in nature. Trees are amazing, powerful, beautiful and have intricate root networks with other trees. They represent so many aspects of balance and resilience that we as professionals can learn from and lean into. Join us for this experience -- I promise you will find your tree! We will also participate in a mindfulness meditation as part of our time together. This multi-sensory nature connection experiences includes scientific nature awareness and sensory awareness, to not only revitalize our physical health, but also open our perceptions to the dynamic life force around us, deeply connecting us with trees and the natural world as an ongoing resource of energy and grounding.   +All of the techniques used in this workshop can be applied or modified for the clinical practice setting with clients.
• Identify ways to use a nature-based context for recommending integrative strategies to address mental health issues related to anxiety, depression, and trauma.• Implement strategies for integrating indoor nature-based contemplative practices into a clinical context focusing on facilitating resilience and grounding.
What to expect: Valerie will guide the group within a forest for about 2 hours, inviting you to discover and engage with the species and spirit of a place in an intimate way. Activities include both gentle walking, sitting and interaction with trees and rocks and mandala creation. **You will receive a welcome letter with additional information via email a few days before the event**
What to Bring: water, snacks, good walking shoes (hiking shoes not necessary), comfortable clothing that you are willing to get 'earthy', weather/sun/insect protection, a journal (optional), and your curiosity. (Sorry, no dogs except for service dogs where allowed.)
FACILITATOR: Valerie Radu, PhD, LCSW is a certified ecotherapist, clinical social worker, and educator based in the beautiful Tennessee Valley. She is the founder of Earth & Soul Ecotherapy which offers nature-based experiences for healing and stress management. Through these experiences, individuals can learn ways to connect or re-connect with the natural world on a deeper level and recognize the mutual relationships between humans and the earth. The gifts of the earth, when recognized and integrated into one’s life, can have a profound impact on overall health and wellness.
NOTE: The Tennessee Board of Social Work Certification and Licensure does not preapprove continuing education programs. It is the responsibility of the social worker, using their professional judgment, to justify that the continuing educational program meets the guidelines of the Licensure Board and is relevant to their professional practice. All social workers should review the specific requirements to ensure the workshops they are attending are applicable and appropriate to their professional development.
