Event description
Early Brain Development and the Factors that Influence This
Speaker: Sarah Taylor Whiteway
Arrival and Refreshments: 15:30 - 15:45
This session will try to dispel some “neuromyths” present in early years practice. The session will replace these misconceptions with an exploration of what we know to be true in brain development between 0 and 2 years old. There will be a focus specifically on how brain development is linked to new skill learning during these years, how brain development can be disrupted during this stage and what conditions are crucial for “healthy” brain development. The session will finish by looking forward to explore how brain development in early years can affect future experiences.
Following university, Sarah started teaching in a secondary school which piqued her interest in the emotional development of young people. She left teaching to become an Educational Psychologist six years ago and now practices in Wandsworth. Sarah has an interest in systemic approaches to promote healthy development during childhood and adolescence.
