Meet the Teachers...
Dr. Patricia Palermo, Embrace Educator and Content Developer
Having taught a variety of age groups for 25+ years, Patricia received her PhD in English from Drew University in Madison, NJ, with distinction. Moreover, she has written a full-length critical analysis of the writer Dawn Powell, which is under contract with Ohio University Press and is due out next spring. She is a NJ certified teacher of English and has two degrees in history (American and Victorian). She is as passionate about the subjects she teaches as she is about each of her students. She sees that every student’s needs are met, whether individually or in small-group settings. The most important thing you should know about Patricia is that she is dedicated to helping all students become the best that they can be. More than teaching English critical writing, analysis, grammar, vocabulary, and all sorts of exam prep, Patricia can help students write college application essays in a way that will make them stand out. She can also assist students in editing papers, assist graduate students with theses or dissertations, and is well-versed in the art of the job hunt, having taught business writing for 16 years. She looks forward to working with you!
Ms. Christine Coleman, Embrace Educator and Content Developer
Christine holds a B.A. in Mathematics from Fordham University and an M.A. in Education from the University of Saint Joseph. She taught middle school mathematics and has tutored middle and high school students for the last twenty years, including SAT and ACT preparation. Her favorite and more recent teaching posts have been coaching an Odyssey of the Mind team and teaching a Creative Thinking Circle where her students engage in creative, critical, and divergent thinking.
Christine’s strengths lie in her ability to explain the subject matter well and with enthusiasm. She can give solid, real life examples and relate the material to her students’ lives. She asks probing questions to allow students to come to a solution on their own and reinforces the idea that making errors is the normal part of the learning process. She is hard-working, dedicated, willing to learn, and able to bring learning to life. Christine enjoys homeschooling three of her four children, spending time with her large extended family, doing puzzles, and exploring the outdoors.
