Workshop Descriptor:
This workshop will engage participants in what research says about effective teaching and learning of mathematics and how this connects to inquiry. Participants will explore mathematics concepts through engagement with a range of learning challenges. The role of high challenge tasks, digital provocations, mindsets, assessment for learning and organization of curriculum in creating learning environments that inspire students to think and engage as mathematicians, will be explored. Participants will also have the opportunity, to engage with the planning process in response to the workshop.
Participants will:


Explore research relating to effective teaching of mathematics


Engage in practical mathematics inquiry and develop a deeper understanding of mathematics concepts


Examine the place of high challenge and non-routine cognitive tasks and how to build them into a coherent program


Identify factors which support inquiry in the teaching and learning of mathematics

Explore ways of assessment for learning rather than performance


Reflect on the impact of the workshop on their current teaching of mathematics


Audience: 
Primary and early childhood teachers of mathematics, curriculum leaders, principals.
Workshop Facilitator: David Secomb
For the past 15 years David has worked in several schools throughout Asia and Europe. This broad experience has helped him to develop an appreciation for other cultures, as well as his own, as he strives to be a compassionate global citizen. David’s previous roles have included specialist PE teacher, classroom teacher, curriculum coordinator and he is currently the Assistant Principal at an international school in Switzerland. He also regularly conducts school evaluations and facilitates teacher workshops for other schools. He is currently researching how teachers construct meaning about student learning in an inquiry context.

Costs:
Workshop Registration Fee
Early Bird Fee: €300.00
Registration fee after the 08 December 2019: €330.00
Registration fee after the 08 January 2020: €350.00
Closing Date for Registrations: February 1 2020
Request for alternative payments (electronic transfer) to the Eventbrite online registration payment system will occur additional €50.00 administration fee
Late Payments: If payment is not made prior to the event, there will be an additional €95.00 penalty fee.
Cancellation Policy: Please note that each workshop will proceed based on participant registration. Innovative Global Education will inform you by 08 January 2020 or earlier if the workshop is to be cancelled. If the workshop is cancelled your full payment will be reimbursed.
Workshop Participation: If Innovative Global Education is informed by 08 January 2020 or before that a participant is unable to attend the workshop, a full refund will be given. If notification of not being able to participate is after 08 January 2020, IGE will be unable to refund the registration fee. 
If, for any reason, a school needs to either transfer a registered participant to another workshop from the workshop registered or change the name of the participant attending a workshop, Innovative Global Education can make these changes on request.
Important: Innovative Global Education must be informed by 08 January 2020 of these changes. There will be an administration fee of €45.00 charged for any changes made after 08 January 2020.
