Monday, 13. April 2020, Schlegel Center for Service and Justice, Environmental Justice Orientation: “Climate Change: Faith, Hope, and Action” April 13, 2020

Event description
Co-facilitated by the Office of Sustainability Programs, Justice & Peace Studies Program, and the Schlegel Center for Service and Justice as part of the Mission Formation Program offered by the Division of Mission and Ministry and supported by the Catholic Social Teaching Fund.
Join us in learning more about the Jesuit mission of justice and reconciliation with humanity and nature. Our morning will begin with reflection and sharing guided by the Ecological Examen. A presentation including topics such as Catholic Social Teaching on caring for creation and cases of environmental justice in Omaha, the U.S., and the world precedes a tour of a local organization related to energy, such as the North Omaha Power Station (NOPS).
Participants will hear from community members, such as Omaha Public Power District (OPPD) engineers at NOPS,  and will learn about local energy production and consumption. Lunch will be provided after the tour and participants will have an opportunity to hear from Omaha Healthy Kids Alliance and close the day with further reflection upon their experiences.
Overall Program Goals:
The group will:

Be introduced to the concept of environmental (in)justice and learn about local, national, and global cases
Meet with Creighton sustainability professionals, OPPD engineers, and Omaha Health Kids Alliance
Experience reflection guided by the Ecological Examen
Be introduced to the Catholic Social Teaching theme of Caring for Creation
Meet and build connections with Creighton colleagues
Commit to an action step that furthers personal, professional, and societal sustainability efforts
