The Latino Arts Strings Program is delighted to present the 7th Annual Latino Arts Strings Program Guitar Festival and Youth Competition in the Latino Arts, Inc. Auditorium on Saturday, February 8, 2020. The 2020 LASP Classical Guitar intends to provide young musicians ages 8-18 with an opportunity to exhibit their talent and reward their hard work, as well as to encourage them to appreciate music from different cultural origins. We wish to encourage new generations of young guitarists to:
Explore and discover the pleasures of playing classical guitar
Experience a regional competition at a youth level
Sharing the stage as part of a guitar orchestrs
Play for world class judges

About the Judges/ Featured Soloists:
A native of Minsk, Belarus, Elina Chekan combines active performance and teaching careers, performing as a soloist and chamber musician around the world. Revent appearances inlclude the Barrios Festival in Manaus, Brazil and the Guitar Festival in Salamanca, Mexico. She holds a Master of Music degrees in Orchestral Conducting, Pedagogy, and Classical guitar performance from the Belarus Academy of Music and a Master of Music Degree from Yale University.
Cuban born guitarist, Rafael Padrón, began studying guitar at the age of eleven. He has been featured in festivals including the International Festival of the Guitar in Havana, Cuba and The Festival Iberoamericano de Guitarra in Tenerife, , Mr. Padron has performed as a soloist with Symphony Orchestra of Matanzas, Cuba and The Panamerican Symphony of Washington D.C., to name a few. He is currently the Program Director of Classical Guitar and Frost School of Music at the University of Miami.
*Students entering the competition who would also like to participate in the master class will have the opportunity to take a class with one of three instructors; Elina Chekan, Rafael Padron, or Ivan Resendiz, based on a first come first serve basis.
*Registration for the competition is $30 and includes the option to enroll in a master class along with one general admission ticket to the Awards Ceremony and Guitar Festival Concert on the evening of the competition at 7:00 p.m.
