Event description
This is a single workshop, taking place over 2 days. The ticket price covers both sessions.
Part 1: Thursday, November 14 from 6:30 - 8:00 pm
Part 2: Friday, November 15 from 6:30 - 8:00 pm
Use powdered dye and melting ice cubes to create beautiful snowflake shapes on 100% cotton fabric. Ice dyeing is a fascinating technique! Dye melts into the fabric, feathering out into delicate whispers of color.
Just like real snowflakes, each piece of fabric is one-of-a-kind. You'll create 12 dyed rectangles, each 5"x7". Stitch them into a pretty winter garland or use them to create unique holiday cards that recipients will want to frame and treasure for years. The dyed fabrics are also colorfast and machine washable, making them suitable for quilting or sewing.
This is a 2-session workshop. On Thursday, we will fold the fabric, apply the dye, and leave the projects overnight for the ice to melt and the colors to set. On Friday, we’ll return to the classroom for the rinse and reveal. Stay for a demonstration of how to create greeting cards that will spotlight the completed fabrics.
No previous experience with dye is required. This workshop involves standing, bending, and repetitive hand work (folding, squeezing and wringing). Class is best suited for Teens & Adults.
Supply fee includes 12 pieces of 100% cotton fabric, each sized 5"x7". Also provided: mordant (soda ash), dust masks, rubber gloves, ice, fiber reactive dye, textile detergent, color fixative, trays, pans and water. A detailed handout includes shopping resources as well as instructions for recreating the results on your own.
Please wear old clothes. Smocks are available for added protection.
Nancy Gamon's studio is located in the Lindner Annex at the corner of Montgomery Road and Kennedy Avenue in the Kennedy Heights neighborhood of Cincinnati Ohio USA. Come to the side of the building with the colorful lemon head mural (facing Kennedy Avenue). The studio entrance is behind the tree next to the Ohio Valley Woodturners Guild loading dock.
