Event description
Explore the hidden history of Derby and how the people who lived here influenced scientific, political and philosophical thinking around the world.
A new library exhibition showcases the archives around members of the Derby Philosophical Society and their famous - and infamous – experiments.  Alongside the exhibition, join us on The Philosophers’ Walk - a free guided walking trail where we’ll discover the significance of secret spots around the city to which the Derby Philosophers were closely connected.
Visit the exhibition, book free tickets here for the walking trail or use our digital trail guide to uncover facts about the city’s past and the national and international impact of some of its previous residents.
Our tour starts inside the Local Studies Library with lift access to the first floor. The tour takes places outside on pavements and footpaths. There is a section alongside Markeaton Brook which is surfaced and level (no steps). There will be road crossings to navigate and our route uses pelican crossings controlled by lights wherever possible. If you have any particular access requirements please let us know in advance so that we can advise appropriately.
This event is part of Being Human: the national festival of the humanities, and is hosted by Derby Local Studies and Family History Library and the University of Derby.
