Event description

In this workshop, artist Jill Snyder-Wallace will introduce a brief history of how Victorian women’s identity were expressed using needle and thread and provide  hands-on instruction on stitching techniques to guide the creation of your own embroidered monogram. Participants can choose from three design options and a range of fabrics and threads that will be introduced in the class. Options in how to transfer designs to fabric and shared basic stitching tips will also be covered.
This is a class for all skill levels, however, some embroidery experience is helpful. The class is meant as an introduction and exercise towards creating a personal hand-embroidered monogram.
Cost of the workshop will cover all required materials including: basic stitch guide instructions, lettering charts, a 6-inch wood hoop, needles, fabric to create samples, and thread for the three design options will all be included in a take-home packet as projects will not be completed in the allotted class time. If you have your own favorite stitching supplies, or a personal design you would like to work with, you are encouraged to bring these.
Jill Snyder-Wallace is an adventurous needleworker with an affinity for the aesthetics of the Victorian era. Exhibiting throughout New England and beyond, Snyder-Wallace is active in the Embroiderers’ Guild of America, Maine Fiberarts and Surface Design Association. Her work can be viewed at
