Event description
*NEW SHIFT EXCHANGE RULES*

Since some employees are having difficulty understanding or exerting common courtesy when posting either shift pickup requests OR when trying to give up shifts, I’ve been forced to post rules regarding shift exchange etiquette ….

1) When posting a request i.e. “Does anyone want to work tonight at 5?” or “I’m looking to pick up tonight…” and a transaction occurs OUTSIDE of the shift exchange wall, it would be helpful to those still seeking pickups or giveaways for you to either update the shift exchange wall and let those of us know that your request has been resolved OR DELETE THE POST. Repeated failure to do so will result in a ban from the shift exchange.

2) If a transaction is agreed upon on the shift exchange’s wall several days prior to the shift in question, and one party decides to not honor the agreement, it would be common decency to give the person AT LEAST a one day notice so that they can make other arrangements. Failure to comply with this rule will result in an IMMEDIATE ban from the shift exchange. This seems harsh and overdramatic but it is necessary that servers and employees are able to trust one another, if employees are picking up shifts and not honoring these commitments by either finding SOMEONE ELSE to pick up the agreed upon shift OR letting the original shift holder before the day of the shift know so they can find other arrangements, you are signaling to me and others that you are aren’t interested in the communal benefit of the shift exchange.

3) If a posting is made by an employee for SAME DAY shift exchange, and the commitment is agreed upon ON THE SHIF T EXCHANGE WALL, and the agreement is NOT honored, OR a posting is made and not self-deleted once the commitment can’t be honored, this will result in an IMMEDIATE ban from the shift exchange. For example, if Sandy Jones posts a request such as “looking to pick up tonight at 5” and John Doe volunteers “ Sandy can have my 5,” with Sandy responding back that she’ll take it , only to come back onto the shift exchange later on in the day to tell John that she can’t, this post, if visible by me, would result in Sandy’s being banned from the shift exchange. Additionally, if Sandy Jones posts “looking to pick up tonight” and several of her co-workers respond only for Sandy to inform us that it turns out she can’t work that night, or gives an excuse and DOESN’T delete her post herself, this too will result in an IMMEDIATE ban as well. In other words, if you want to work that night, and you waste our times by posting and responding and then backing out, then you can find another way to exchange shifts. NO EXCEPTIONS

*understand that this only is applicable to posts MADE ON THE SHIFT EXCHANGE WALL. I’m not going to police any wall besides the ones that I’m responsible for, understand that the most reliable way to exchange shifts is still to put it in the book the old fashioned way, this shift exchange is merely a more innovative and convenient way to communicate with each other, so let’s be adults and communicate with one another even after our OWN individual needs are met.
