This program is designed to provide training in Best Management Practices for anyone working in the lawn, landscape, pest control, or municipal ground areas. It provides the training and testing necessary to obtain a Limited Certification for Urban Landscape Commercial Fertilizer (LCULCF). It is focused on reducing non-point source pollution resulting from fertilization or pesticide application.


BMP certification will be awarded to those passing the exam.


This course can also be taken online. We strongly recommend that you download and read the manual prior to taking the online course or attending the classroom session.


NOTE: There are no CEUs given with the online course.

This class is offered at no cost to, Pinellas County Employees, School Board Employees, and Pinellas Extension UF/IFAS Volunteers. Identification must be provided on the day of class to attend this class for free.


A maximum of 4 CEUs can be earned by attending this class. Attendees will earn 2 CORE and may select their 2 additional CEUs from: Pvt. App. Ag., Ornamental & Turf (O&T), Limited Lawn & Ornamental (LL&O), Limited Commercial Landscape Maintenance (LCLM), or Commercial Lawn & Ornamental (Comm. We will provide a full refund for cancellations made by Pinellas County Extension. Refunds may take up to 30 days to process. Payment - We require full payment at time of reservation so be prepared with a credit card to complete this transaction. Refunds - Refunds will be made in the event of a class cancellation or if the registrant requests a refund 24 hours prior to the class time. Reservations - You must be 18 to make a reservation. If you are under 18 and want to attend a class you must register and attend with a parent or guardian.

Educational Program Workshop


Ø This workshop is designed to provide training in Best Management Practices (BMPs) for anyone working in the lawn, landscape, pest control, or municipal grounds areas.


Ø The Best Management Practices are focused on reducing non-point source pollution resulting from fertilization or pesticide application.


Ø At the end of this training you will be given a post-test to determine knowledge learned. If the post-test is successfully completed, you will be mailed a Green Industries BMP certificate of completion.


Ø Some cities & counties require this certification before you can bid on jobs or have commercial customers.


Ø Be sure to turn in your post-test and your evaluation, by the end of the day.


Ø If you also need pesticide CEUs, get your signed CEU attendance form before you leave.

Overview –


            Green Industries BMPs for Protection of Water Resources (50 minutes)


            History, Background & Overview of the BMP Program & Local Ordinances.


            How to use the BMPs to protect water quality.

Lawn and Landscape – Cultural Practices and BMPs (80 minutes)


            Best Management Practices for healthy lawns and landscapes. Includes: mowing, pruning,            fertilization & irrigation effects on water quality, plant health and ability to tolerate pest            pressures.

Irrigation BMPs (50 minutes)


            Irrigation Best Management Practices to conserve water, reduce disease & insect damage, and                protect water quality. Irrigation BMPs include: irrigation requirements, design, installation,                          monitoring, troubleshooting and proper management of irrigation.

Fertilizer BMPs (50 minutes)


            Fertilizer sources: comparisons and responses; application; and safety

Pesticide BMPs (50 minutes)


            Licensing; environmental risk; use of IPM in a management program; pesticide selection, storage,             handling & disposal.
